Hi Jim!

Is it possible to set up email notifications for when a new game starts? I think we did that in the bet and I appreciate it.

Thank you!

I think you currently get an email for being prodded.

What I'm wondering about this is should there be a single option to either receive emails or not, or individual options to receive them for specific things.

Possible things to be emailed about:

  • Game starts
  • Day starts
  • Day ends?
  • You have an unconfirmed signup and there are enough signups to start if you reconfirm
  • New message thread

Maybe for Forum and Message threads you could subscribe for in-site notifications or for emails or both? Maybe in this case emails could be sent once a Day listing all the thread you've subscribed to for email notifications that have posts?

Maybe for some notifications (not Forum posts but maybe Message posts) it could check how long it's been since you visited the site and email you if it's been over say a week (and you haven't already received such an email since then)?

Obviously I still don't have a clear idea of the best way to do this, which I guess is why it hasn't been done yet. Maybe I should just start with game starts.

I like the idea of being able to opt-in to as many email notifications as you prefer.  Some people hate them, but I like them!

Game start is helpful, especially in the blitz games.

I'm planning on implementing a few email options this week. The obvious one is game starts. Another is Night ends (you should be paying attention during the Day, but if you have nothing to during the Night it might be helpful to not have to remember when the deadline is). A third is just some way to get someone's attention. I'm not sure exactly how to do this one. Messages here are more private discussions than they are email-like, so you don't want to get an email for each post in a message thread. Maybe if you can "poke" or "ping" someone with a message that will be sent as a notification and an email?

You can now receive emails for game starts, night ends and notes received. Let me know if there are more events you'd like to receive an email for.
